Mallorie has been described as having a personality like a stone. It is not an inaccurate description. She prizes truth and principle, generally disdaining people that don't seem to have any particularly strong beliefs. She seems humourless, though there's the occasional hint of a dry sense of humour that suggests she could learn what a joke is, one day.
An orphan, Mallorie was largely raised as the ward of her late father's friend. She has no real knowledge of her parents and their histories, other than what little her guardian told her. As far as she knows, she has no siblings.
The family friend who raised her sends the occasional letter, but they've not seen each other in quite some time (and Mallorie's departure for the Drench makes it less and less likely), meaning she's largely completely alone.
Born in Palldol, Mallorie's parents died when she was young enough to not remember them. She was taken in by her father's friend and business partner, who raised her as a ward, before she left to become an enforcer. Somewhat unpersonable and fond of order, she found the rigid nature of the work suited her nature.
Over time, however, Mallorie eventually became somewhat disillusioned with the work, as well as the Plate culture she lived in. The final straw came after an unpleasant clash led to injury on both sides, and Mallorie spent enough time recovering in bed to decide she was done.
Resigning her role, she took residence in the Drench where she hoped to find something to put her investigative skills towards.
