Appearance

Dhara has the physical intensity of a kitten, with softer facial features and a short, average physique. She might not stick out among a crowd, except for her choice in alternative dresswear, but that tends to work in her favor. She doesn't particularly want to get noticed, not generally speaking. She seems withdrawn and aloof from the outside because of this.

What she lacks in muscle, she makes up for in agility. She's quick on her feet when she needs to be and often uses that momentum to her advantage rather than relying on sheer physical force. That, and she can be really sneaky too. Fast hands and a calculative opportunist are the makings of a practiced thief, mayhaps? One does have to wonder where she gets all those rings and necklaces.

Personality

Dhara seems reserved in a crowd, but in reality she's scoping things out. She likes to identify a person's motives, and generally get a good feel of who they are before she chooses how she feels about them. Usually she is most motivated by how much she thinks she can benefit from being involved in another person. However, she does have an empathy for those like her, and tries to help the Drenchers among her as best she can. As long as she can get something out of it.

Beneath her aloof or uninterested façade, she is a naturally curious person. She is intelligent despite not having had much in the way of 'scholarly' education. Books are one of her biggest interests; she will try to get her hands on quite literally any book - whether it's educational or otherwise. Because of this she's managed to learn a lot about astronomy and also speaks a second language (albeit not fluently). She also knows enough about motor vehicles to do basic repairs and how they function (such as how one might hypothetically hotwire a car).

But despite her intelligence and all her contemplation, Dhara has a lust for adrenaline and control over her own life, that she can't seem to resist it even at the best of times. She quickly becomes a danger to herself and others when she gives in to these high-risk situations. She is impulsive in the name of proving that she can't be contained.

Rebellion is a rampant fire in her blood; she refuses to accept that things must stay the way they are, or that the way things are is any good for anyone except those who benefit from the suffrage. Very anti-classism. She doesn't believe in the societal expectations imposed upon her. A 'normal' job would drive her to the very edges of sanity. So she works when she wants to and for whom she wants to, and makes thievery her full-time profession. She is also willing to do the occasional odd job, if it sparks her interest.

Dhara is angry, she is sad, she is bitter and restless and so much more. But her most intense, deep emotions are the hardest for her to admit. She'd prefer if she were truly unfeeling, so that the terrible things in her life didn't get to her so. But the reality is that she does have feelings, and they are all very intense from a life of being pushed down into the mud. Her control of herself does slip from time to time, especially if goaded or if she feels justified, etc. etc.

History

Dhara has been a Drencher all her life. Born into it, molded by it, and cursed by it. She hates the existence of the place, for it caused so many of the important people in her life to disappear.

Her childhood -- though grimly rampant with hunger, disease, and instability -- still is filled with fond memories of her family. They at least had each other, and not many could say the same. Few were so lucky in the drenches.

It was from an early age that Dhara knew life was wrong somehow. Her parents were always upset, were always suffering and wishing for better, and as she grew her elder sister was intent on pulling out of the lowest life. These factors only solidified the growth of Dhara's hatred for the upper class; the Platers were a scourge on the city. She began stealing from them, having honed a natural talent for it in order to survive; however, it also became a point to make.

Dhara's father died in a fire when she was still only a young child, she doesn't remember much of him. Though, he had made life somewhat stable for his children, so when he was gone it left them in shambles. They struggled from home-to-home, hunger was so frequent it became a norm to simply accept, and prostitution was the only way her mother could bring in a form of income. Though Dhara didn't know this until she was older, a teenager, and found her sister Aurelia arguing vehemently with her mother. It was after several hurtful words were slung between the two of them that Aurelia left -- though not entirely. She continued to support the family for years, but hardly ever came around to visit.

She did come home when their mother died, though. Illness took her, leeched the force of her life from her. Her death had been slow, painful, and Dhara watched from a distance as Aurelia never left her mother's side. Dhara couldn't handle to be so close to it, and when her mother did pass on she found herself taking up after Aurelia; she hardly came home.

It was when Dhara was 18 that Aurelia up and disappeared, leaving younger sister Maggie in the care of a confused and angry Dhara. She knows Aurelia didn't abandon them, but has never been able to find any answers. There wasn't a trace of her. Dhara believes her to have been murdered, though she doesn't know why, but this only fueled her grudge against the way of the world.

Her sister eventually found a husband, though much to Dhara's chagrin he was from the upper levels of their society. She and Maggie fought endlessly about it; it drove a rift between them so deep that Dhara makes a point to avoid her sister.

Dhara herself has had her fair share of half-lovers, though it should be said that she was probably the one only half-loving. She never let herself completely commit to another person, for many reasons she's made up to justify the active decision. Though she has no qualms with anything that doesn't have strings attached, it does tend to leave her feeling hollow.

When Aurelia disappeared, it should be mentioned that she left behind quite a bit. Some money, a lot of notes investigating their father's death that Dhara has mostly dismissed as a fucked up way of coping with it, and... a motorcycle. At first, Dhara was horrible at driving it. But that motivated her to read about vehicles, and she realized one of the major problems was a desperately-needed repair. From that point, she grew fond of repairing motor vehicles and ended up realizing that it was a service she could get paid decent money for.

Her interest in astronomy developed after reading a comic book that revolved around it, and she found herself taking a deep dive into it. It's a hobby, if not a passion, and is the one thing that can always get her talking - even with a stranger.

Despite her interests and her independence, Dhara is restless. She wants more out of her life and experiments in efforts to try to figure out how to get it. The first time she raced, she was hooked, and ever since then she's been seeking that adrenaline high. She doesn't want to be stuck in the Drenches until she dies of disease or gets murdered for a piece of bread. The feeling of purposelessness haunts her. So, she goes where the action is in the hopes it will lead her to bigger and better things.

She now lives in a loft, among people who are at least like-minded and just as fucked up in their own ways.
