We have taken to the streets
In open rejoice revolting
Her family gave her warnings every day. Every evening.

Hone in the brashness, the temptations. Remember to be inconspicuous. Reputations and actions were worth more than the random wagging of a tongue, or the press of another rule, another law, upon a board. Or her father’s keen smirk (in a goading, genuine ‘don’t do what I wouldn’t do’ way). That was always her favorite.

Today’s lures came in along the Plate tourists, as they shambled back and forth across the streets, looking stupidly, horribly lost, doofus grins on their faces because they only thing they’d ever truly known was ignorance. The sheer force of will to not reach out and snag at their coin, pilfer them empty, or gut them until their bodies ran dry in the middle of the pavement barely existed. Her fingers itched, and she scraped her pinky against her thumb in some restless irritation.

Maybe she could lend them directions straight down into a ravine.

Withholding the hiss behind her tongue, she stepped around a family gaping and pointing down the road at some sign, strides quick, light, and even, nearly airy in their elemental prowess, attempting to be unassuming and discreet for the morning.

Kala
Everybody wants to be famous
Nobody wants to be nameless, aimless
That makes two of ‘em eyeing the Topside family - only Kala’s aiming to draw the eye of the wife or daughter, standing tall and relaxed in white - a rare color down here in the lowly mud-hovels of the Drench. None of that loud, obnoxious hawking that the other sellers do. Kala prefers to let her outfits, her ability to stand out do the selling for her. Sometimes it works well. Sometimes it doesn’t, but she always leaves with a little more coin in her pocket than she came there with. And usually a number or two.

Some Topsiders just can’t help the idea of slummin’ it with a Drench girl. It’s gotta be some kind of fetish, really…

Anyway, the tall, lithe woman cocks a hip and gestures elegantly to her assortment of rings, necklaces, and earrings. For a moment, it seems like it might work, with the sparkling clean teen pausing to look, even stretching out a hand to inspect - but no, mother dearest pulls her onward, muttering something about only having so much time to spend down here. And as the four move on, Kala flips ‘em the casual bird, one long finger rising callously against their backs. She sighs, eyes drifting over the crowd, before they light on Arachne. Her head tilts briefly to one side and then flashes her a wink when she thinks the girl might be looking her way.
Tenderest touch leaves the darkest of marks
And the kindest of kisses break the hardest of heart

Arachne didn’t miss much. Sharp little eyes, narrowed and pinpointed on movement and distinctions, on the way people altered their demeanors, on the casual onslaughts between restless joints and motions. It’d kept her safe on multiple occasions, when her mouth ran far too much and far too loud, when all familial warnings had gone straight out the window.

So her gaze flickered upon the other woman attempting to snag the attentions of the family. For half a moment, she hoped the fellow Drencher would take them to the cleaners – give over either the cheapest of assortments for the heaviest of coin, or pilfer something straight out of their pockets, right underneath their long, asinine noses.

Alas – within a moment the mother must’ve regained a modicum of sense or bearing, peeling and pulling them away. Her snicker appeared in return, rather than a justified eye roll, as the bird was flipped, and they all meandered away. “Nice try,” she shouted in response, to either Kala or the family. Difficult to tell from her side of the street, ensuring the ambivalence was purposeful.
