A table is set up at the edge of a park, just in front of a huge canvas sagging with paint-filled balloons. A selection of sharp objects and BB guns are set up on the table, none quite as dangerous looking as the grin on the mugwi mask of the caretaker. Their body is hidden by a paint splattered jumpsuit, and they pace back and forth, occasionally calling out to passerby’s:

Step right up! Pop a lucky balloon, win a prize, easy as that.

Every so often someone takes them up on the offer, but so far it seems like no one has been lucky, all kinds of colours dripping down from the shredded remains of popped balloons.

Welcome to the Dexterity event! When you post your attempt, please make sure to include which type of weapon you use, and if you have any special modifiers. Each character will have three shots.

This is a DEX roll

kill your demons, kill 'em dead; in your mirror, in your bed
in your heart, in your head. don't you look good in red?
A moment alone allows for the Bratena youth to step toward the balloon popping game – a curious gleam in his eye as he watches a few in the crowd step up to try their chances at winning a prize. So far, all he can see is a few of the smaller prize balloons popped, paint streaming down the rest of the display.

Despite his bold appearance, he isn’t quite bold enough to step up and try his hand immediately, instead, watching a few others try before he decides to step in, flashing a bright smile behind his gilded mask to the caretaker in the mugwi mask.

Why not.” He drawls, reaching for the BB gun. He tries to get used to the weight of it – so at odds from the actual guns he’s accustomed to, but he hopes the fact he’s familiar with it at least a little bit might help his chances here.

Lilliane almost walks past the place but stops as she hears the caretaker call out to the crowd. Taking a few steps toward the table, she takes a closer look at the game setup. Not exactly her strength, but why not? She is here to have fun after all.

"I'd like to try," she says to the caretaker with a smile. After a quick glance over her options, she decides for one of the BB guns. Not that she has really used a gun before, but how difficult can it be, right?

Siegfried
The people standing there first to draw Siegfried's attention. But firearms were never really his thing, but it was time to expand his horizons. When he saw the sea of colors, he laughed out loud and thought that the whole thing was a wonderful work of art and hoped that people would allow him to buy the floor.

But now it was time to distribute more color everywhere. So he tried his luck and tried to aim as long as possible. But with the mask, it was a little harder. But whether the gun would hit a balloon and beautify the kustwerk. But the idea for a new work of art was born.

Apparently this game isn’t too difficult for those of you who have joined in. Each one of the participants scores exceptionally well – Sunjata, Lilliane, and Sigfried, all managing to hit the bullseye balloon, splashing neon pink paint all down the side of the board, having to be replaced with surprising frequency.

To Sunjata, the festival employee reaches into the back and pulls out a mask not unlike the Saint he’s portraying. It’s gilded and bright, and it’s handed off to the young Bratena with a knowing look and a word of caution.

To Lilliane, it’s a different mask but still just as bright of a smile, this mask a deep blue adorned with exaggerated drips as if it were the perfect embodiment of rain. This mask also comes with a warning.

To Sigfried, this mask is exactly the same that Sunjata has received, sunrays on the crown of this impressively (almost too shiny) mask. This mask comes with the same word of caution that Sunjata had received.

You all did exceptionally well and have hit the bullseye balloon!! Admin will add these items to your profiles, they are as follows:

Sunjata and Sigfried win the Tsungata Mask | Dozens of wavy rays rise off the crown of this mask, the surface of it polished to a bright hazy shine. Can be used one time per season to summon a flash bang.

Lilliane wins the Vovonen Mask | This deep blue mask seems to melt down the wearer’s face, long exaggerated drips framing their mouth. Can be used one time per season to summon a flash storm. (1d4 rounds of heavy rain.)

Siegfried
Siegfried accepts the mask with thanks and looks it over from top to bottom. He is satisfied with the quality. He also nods his head to the other winners.

"Thank you for the mask. But I have a question what will you do with the floor when the festivities are over? I would like to take it off your hands if you could tell me your price for it. it's so colorful I like it." If the price is not too high, Siegfried would buy the whole thing and make it even more colorful to make the artwork perfect.

and leave your feelings in the city lights
In spite of his misgivings, he's quite enjoying himself. The atmosphere is nice, the food is somehow reasonably priced for being street food, and it's good to boot. Morrocaw has not been stepped on even once, and though it's not the cheetah's idea of a perfect day she seems quite content to watch the crowd. Maybe it soothes that ancient itch of watching the herds wander across the open fields?

Isanti finds himself at a booth not well suited for his pale robes, but he's enchanted by the color splashes—and he's not the only one, given that a tall, sturdy man is trying to obtain it from the booth-runner. Isanti doesn't want to intrude, so he quietly chooses his weapon of choice—darts. He's not amazing at throwing things, but surely he'd be able to pop at least one?

Taking care not to endanger the caretaker he throws, hoping to be rewarded with a satisfying burst of color.

Having never been asked this question before, the person working the booth huffs a laugh of surprise, but takes him seriously with it. “Uh, I’d have to talk to my boss ‘bout it but I don’t see why you can’t just… Have it.” What else would they do with it anyway? Usually it was replaced each and every place they set up.

The details of that get worked out behind the scenes, however, because Isanti steps up to the plate, the attendant waiting to see whether the pale haired man with the unique cheetah pet would hit one, and if so, which balloon would be the result?

The new bullseye balloon pops, spilling out a neon green paint, marking it as yet another perfectly won prize. Isanti is given a mask identical to Lilliane’s own, deep blue with drips dancing along its face and a warning alongside it as well.

Isanti has won the Vovonen Mask | This deep blue mask seems to melt down the wearer’s face, long exaggerated drips framing their mouth. Can be used one time per season to summon a flash storm. (1d4 rounds of heavy rain.)

She was sweet like honey
But all I can taste is the blood in my mouth
During her break, Savera decides to try her hand at the games.

The first one on her rotation: balloon pop, a practice she used to enjoy immensely in former festival years. Now as she watches others shoot and throw and laugh or curse the results, the barest hint of a nostalgic smile curls beneath the soldier's mask. She has been too tense recently, drawn taut by the pervasive feeling that something is going to go terribly wrong. It will be good to cut the tension.

And what better tool, than a knife?

Savera picks up the slender blade, testing the balance and twirling it between her fingers before suddenly and fluidly drawing back and flinging forward, hoping to see the spinning metal lodge itself into a bulls-eye balloon.

The blade might be a fine tool for balloons, but tension is a more fickle target, and the feeling that has perturbed Savera throughout the evening knocks her aim. Not by much, but a bullseye it is not. Sucking his teeth and only barely containing his relief, the game runner watches the pale pink paint drip down the board and dilute the stains from the previous bullseyes.

"Sorry 'bout the bad luck lady." His crooked grin seems to be anything but sorry, but he offers out a paper bag of sugar stars, the consolation prize. "Maybe next time, eh?" A laugh coughs out of him and his attention returns to the people milling by, calling for more contestants.
